Betsy Hoke, Owner and Designer

What is your background?

My first degree was in economics but after I had a family, I went back to school for interior design. I knew then that my love was applied art.

What are your professional affiliations?

I am a professional member of ASID, and I am a registered Interior Designer in Wisconsin. I am licensed to practice in the State of Florida. Also, I am a Certified Remodeler with the National Association of Remodelers.

What style do you like to design?

I feel that if it is a residential project, it should reflect the owners and their taste. While I will give someone what they ask for, I will also educate them about other options and show them what else might be available. One of the joys of this profession is that every client is different and every job is different; it is never boring.

After many years working outside of the field of design, but having a love for Interior Design and Architecture, I returned to the classroom to pursue an Interior Design degree. While studying, I worked with others to design spaces for the Breast Cancer Showhouses in the Milwaukee area. I consider it a privilege to work in such beautiful homes with other design professionals.

Being a practical, organized person who appreciates beautiful things, I’d like to share my favorite quote by William Morris: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”  This quote perfectly describes my vision for a well designed home.

I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, travel, photography, reading and handiwork.

“We shape our dwellings and afterwards our dwellings shape us.” This Winston Churchill quotation reflects my goal in design. The environment created for your surroundings impacts how you feel and interact. My challenge is to interpret and define client’s needs and preferences, while assisting them in making the best choice for their situation. This often includes pieces that clients own and want to incorporate into a new location or need updating. With a strong emphasis on customer service and integrity, I build lasting relationships with clients. I bring twenty years of experience in design and home furnishings at Peabody Interiors, Paul Weise Furniture, and Sturgeon Interiors, Ltd.
